Encanto Kicks and Coffee: coffee, sneakers, and boricua pride in Philadelphia

encanto-1

At 2110 E. Norris Street in Philadelphia, Encanto Kicks and Coffee offers more than just coffee it’s a fusion of urban culture, Puerto Rican roots, and entrepreneurial spirit.

A Shop with history and flavor

Luis Quiles, the shop’s owner, moved from Puerto Rico to Philadelphia at the age of six and always dreamed of owning a sneaker store.
“Back in school, my friends and I used to resell sneakers to afford our own. Over time, I realized that a sneaker-only business wasn’t sustainable. That’s when I came up with the idea of combining it with a coffee shop,” he explains.

Exclusive Sneakers

Encanto specializes in limited-edition sneakers sold at standard resale prices ($150–$180).
“We don’t carry large quantities of a single model. Exclusivity is part of the experience. And if someone is looking for a size we don’t have, we’ll get it for them,” says Luis.

Coffee with Roots

The coffee served at Encanto comes from Puerto Rico, from the Bosque brand, and is prepared to the customer’s preference with whole milk, almond, or oat milk. They also offer pastelillos and other local products.
Their signature drinks like Air Force One, Triple Pink, or Retro Sun Club are original recipes that pay tribute to iconic sneaker models.
“The idea of the café came about when my wife was pregnant. She taught me how to make coffee, and I fell in love with the process. I also wanted to satisfy her cravings,” he adds with a laugh.

Boricua Pride and Community

The name Encanto is a tribute to Puerto Rico: “I wanted people to know we’re Latino. We have the Puerto Rican flag here, we speak both Spanish and English, and we want everyone to feel at home.”

Luis says the local community has been supportive, but they’re still working on reaching new audiences across the city: “We need to keep making noise, so more people discover what we’re doing.”

More Than Just a Store

The vibe at Encanto is warm, bilingual, and welcoming. “We want people to come in, enjoy quality coffee, check out exclusive sneakers, join our events, and feel like part of the family.”
With a strong commitment to community growth, Encanto stands behind one clear message: Support local!
